PTSD Treatment & CPTSD Treatment Helps to Resolve Painful Experiences That Cause Lasting Effects.
Traumatic experiences can sometimes be easy to identify, such as violent assault, an accident, or war. On the other hand, there are many times when it is less obvious. Such as things said to us as children or ongoing emotional abuse. Regardless of the source of trauma, it can lead to feelings such as fear, sadness, loneliness, guilt, or shame.
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) affects how you feel about and interact in present relationships. You might feel like you can’t truly trust the people closest to you. Or PTSD triggers might cause you to isolate yourself even though you truly desire connection. You may cling to those you love, or push them away. The ones you care for most may be the ones that you blow up at or the ones you can’t tell how you feel.
Sometimes the symptoms of PTSD are in our physical bodies: difficulty sleeping, upset stomach, headaches, or feeling constantly on edge. You may even have an illness or physical issues stemming from your trauma.
You have likely done things to try to alleviate your pain. Maybe you have tried PTSD treatment before but you are still suffering. You know something isn’t okay. You have been struggling for a long time and don’t know how to change it. The same things keep coming up despite your attempts to fix or distract yourself from them.
What is the difference between PTSD, CPTSD, & Trauma?
If you experienced a single trauma, such as an accident or assault, then you may develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Symptoms of PTSD include: feeling on edge, being on high alert, racing heartbeat, difficulty sleeping, avoidance, disconnection from others, and having flashbacks.
Complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD) has similarities to PTSD. CPTSD occurs after having experienced ongoing and pervasive traumatic experiences. Such as someone who grew up in an abusive or neglectful home. As a PTSD therapist, I can help you identify if you have PTSD or CPTSD.
Sometimes people have trauma and don’t meet the diagnostic criteria for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder or CPTSD. If you have trauma symptoms, then I wouldn’t get caught up in the diagnosis. You know you need help. It is time to take care of your needs with PTSD treatment.
CPTSD & PTSD Treatment Can Help You
Trauma Affects People Differently.
Hearing the word “trauma” can be jarring. I often speak with people in therapy who are hurting but feel their experience doesn’t meet a high enough threshold for pain. As a PTSD therapist in Pleasanton, CA I hear clients discount their experience as “not that bad.” If it felt traumatic, it was traumatic. You don’t have to continue living with the effects of your trauma. PTSD treatment and CPTSD treatment can be powerful tools to help you move forward.
In trauma therapy and PTSD treatment I specialize in working with a variety of different kinds of trauma, including:
Sexual abuse (childhood and adult)
Non-consensual sexual experiences
Developmental or relational trauma, including neglect
Past experiences of cheating in romantic relationships
Past physical abuse or emotional trauma in childhood and/or romantic relationships
Healing from narcissistic parents or partners
How EMDR for PTSD Works
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapy used to decrease the effects of painful memories and experiences.
Using tapping or eye movements, EMDR therapy helps connect both sides of your brain in order to desensitize the feelings you’re experiencing and help your brain to reprocess the memories. Basically, after EMDR therapy a memory will feel no longer feel raw and painful because it was processed into your long-term memory. When a memory moves into your long-term memory, you remember it but it finally FEELS like it is in the past.
EMDR taps into your brain’s ability to heal itself. As an EMDR and PTSD therapist, I simply guide you through that process.
When you’re able to process the past, it loses its power over you.
When you are ready to work on moving forward, respond differently to the people you love, and heal and grow in spite of what you’ve been through, EMDR for PTSD can help make that a reality.
Your past is a part of you. But it doesn’t have to hold you back anymore with the help of a PTSD therapist.

“Secrets can maim us. Shame can close us off. What we bury drags us down, and there can be no flight from it. Speak, speak up, speak out. Find the words to express the facts that matter. Bring them out into the light, into the air. Hiding heals nothing. Silence saves no one. When we are heard, we can be acknowledged. When we are known, we can belong.”
